It is with deep sadness we share the news of the passing of Dr Catherine Hamlin, co-founder of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.
On Wednesday March 18th Catherine passed away peacefully at her home on the grounds of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia where she has lived for 61 years.
Respect for a life well served. Such selfless dedication to an important issue & improving the lives of so many others. Inspirational. Rest In Peace Catherine xo
A Global Treasure has passed. May she rest easy in her Saviour arms. Blessings to her son, family, and all of many, staff and workers who continue to care for the woman of Ethiopia.
I would like to remind everyone that Catherine and Reg’s work was inspired by their Christian faith and no doubt the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. I’m sure in death as in life Catherine would like the glory of her life of compassionate work to go to her living saviour Jesus Christ, as much or more than to herself as a woman of vision, courage and determination.

I just wanted to pay tribute to her life and what she has achieved. For our very first IWD Day at Canowindra her sister who lived at Molong came and spoke to us with lots of great stories and photos and we contributed all funds raised to the Foundation. An extraordinary, inspirational life. An extraordinary, inspirational woman. It was a privilege to be part of Dr Hamlin’s team and to see her work first hand. Her staff and her family will be heartbroken to lose her. Sincere condolences to them at this very sad time.
I feel as though I have lost a dear Zonta friend. I saw Catherine inducted as an International Zonta Member in Hawaii in 2000. She was a saint. I hope you wish for the Foundation to continue will be fulfilled.
Tears are freely flowing. I feel incredibly privileged to have met, and shared lunch with, Catherine in November, 2018. We were even lucky enough to sit with Catherine in her humble cottage on the grounds of the ‘hospital by the river’ in Addis Ababa. Whilst I ‘know’ what Catherine and Reg achieved during their many, many years in Ethiopia, I feel I can never truly know what it must be like for the many thousands of girls and women who had their health, dignity and life restored because of the Hamlins.
