Catherine Hamlin is a shining light in this materialistic world. She will be alive for as long as others continue with her work.
January 24th 1924 –
It is with deep sadness we share the news of the passing of Dr Catherine Hamlin, co-founder of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.
On Wednesday March 18th Catherine passed away peacefully at her home on the grounds of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia where she has lived for 61 years.
Catherine Hamlin is a shining light in this materialistic world. She will be alive for as long as others continue with her work.
How honoured and privileged Soroptimist International was to be able to work with Catherine to build the Juniper Café at the Desta Mender Village.
It was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet Catherine when she celebrated 50 years of working in Ethiopia. Her peace, calm and positive thinking were amazing, and one felt blessed being able to talk with her. Catherine was indeed a saint and her legacy will live on. I have no doubt that, not too far in the distant future every woman in Ethiopia will feel safe having a baby and have access to medical care and enjoy the birth of a live baby, thanks to Catherine’s determination.
Vale Dr Catherine Hamlin AC and thank you for teaching us to love others.

Catherine Hamlin has been an inspiration to me for many years, I loved reading her book and I have followed with interest all that she has achieved in her exceptional career. I would have loved to meet her, she sounded like such a wonderful person. I am sure she will be sorely missed, but I hope all the amazing projects that she and her husband created will continue on without them. With thanks Anna Hyles
I love this woman! Her goals, what she achieved is amazing. She trained with my Aunty all those years ago.
Go in peace and love.
R.I.P Catherine, you left this world a better place for the many women you treated and helped. Thankyou from all women across the world. Bless You!
A wonderful special lady Her smile filled the world
An amazing roll model, if we all could be half the person she was, this world would be a better place.. Thank you for everything you did.
What a life, what an amazing, beautiful woman, and what a legacy she has left. I’m sure many followers like myself, felt we knew her. She will never be forgotten. My sympathy goes out to all those, especially at her foundations, where she was a mother figure, a true saint. Catherine RIP.
An amazing kind & generous woman who was a true inspiration. Sorry for your loss. What a legacy she bestowed on her world.
No doubt the angels will be there with open arms greeting you in heaven, dear Catherine. Though you may have left this bodily incarnation, your spirit lives on through the work that you’ve established; through the families you have touched; through the light of hope that you have given to countless women. May your light continue to shine for eternity. Much love. Much gratitude.
I have followed Catherines story for more than 30years. She has left a wonderful legacy to the world xxx
It is with great sadness that I learn of Catherine Hamlyn’s death.
Her life and work was inspiring and unparalleled, with so many Ethiopian women healed and liberated from the dreadful fate of untreated fistula.
Her name will continued to be celebrated, as her hospital carries on her
work.
a brilliant light that will shine on

Home at last!
What a truly amazing life spent making a difference in a part of the world that really needs it. Families rescued, repaired and reunited by the pioneering work of the Hamlins. Thank you Drs Reg and Catherine for bringing to the World’s attention this plight – so we could join you in some small way – and that together through your work has made such a difference to many. May your legacy live on and prosper until all women no longer suffer in this way.
A wonderful human being whose loving footprint will remain on this earth for many years to come.
What a legacy she will leave.
My favourite gift for a new baby is one of the fistula clinics handmade toys.
