It is with deep sadness we share the news of the passing of Dr Catherine Hamlin, co-founder of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.
On Wednesday March 18th Catherine passed away peacefully at her home on the grounds of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia where she has lived for 61 years.
Catherine’s dedication was truly inspiring and her work was amazing. Even though she has passed away, her legacy lives on in those she has helped and those who will be helped in the future.
I had the pleasure of meeting you at a book signing in Melbourne, Australia several years ago. Prior to meeting you I always thought that the adage that one person can make a difference was an impossible platitude, a polite thing to say: sounds good at the time, not possible in reality, however, after meeting you, my thoughts were shattered! What an inspirational women who stood beside an inspirational man.
A truely inspiring woman who greatly impacted so many women’s lives. Her kindness will be forever remembered. Please continue to support her wonderful work in Ethiopia.
What a wonderful woman. I read Hospital by the River many years ago and have been a supporter, one way or another, since then. She will be sadly missed but she very ably future proofed her life’s legacy. Rest In Peace, beautiful angel 😇.
Catherine Hamlin was such an inspiration to me and I admire the incredible work she did over so many years. Her amazing legacy will live on and so many people have been impacted by her work. We should all be like Catherine. How lucky we all are to share the world with such a generous soul.
