An amazing person whose kindness, wisdom and dedication will serve as inspiration for decades to come.

Here was a woman who clearly made the world a better place by her actions, her dedication and perseverance over so many decades. While Catherine impacted so many thousands of Ethiopian women directly, she was also an example to millions more around the world by her devotion and sacrifice. We can make a difference, and it can be a privilege to do so if one but has the right attitude and grit. Vale Catherine Hamlin – the pink Hamlin apron hanging in my kitchen will always make me reflect on the power of good.

An awe inspiring lady who has contributed so much to the lives of many women in Ethiopia….Well done, good and faithful servant….your legacy will live on!

እንደ እናት አፍቅረውን አገልግለውናል። እንኳን በዚህ ክፉ ወረርሽኝ የመጣ ነጮችን ስናገል እና ስናሳድድ አይተው ሳያዝኑብን አረፉ። 😔

በሕይወቴ ከሰራኋቸው ጠብታ ነገሮች መካከል፣ በልደት ቀኔ ለእርስዎ እና በእርስዎ ጥላ ሥር፣ ድጋፍ ፍቅር እና እንክብካቤ ለሚያገኙ ሴቶች፣ ልባዊ ሰላምታና ፍቅር ለመላክ ብዬ ጥቂት ገንዘብ ከወዳጆቼ ሰብስቤ መላኬ አንዱ ነው።

በዚያ ሰሞን ችግኝ ትተክሉ ነበርና፣ በስሜ በፍቅርና በምስጋና አንድ ችግኝ እንደተከላችሁልኝ ስሰማ መኖሬ በልዩ መልኩ ትርጉም ሰጥቶኝ ነበር። ሰላምታ ልላክ ብዬ ያደረግኩት ጥቂት ነገር፣ ቁም ነገር ሆኖ ምላሹ አጥለቅልቆኝ እንደነበር ሳስበው እሸማቀቃለሁ። ጸጸትም ተሰምቶኛል።

ሩጫችንን ሮጠዋል። ቀዳዳችንን ደፍነዋል። የበደልናቸውን በሺዎች የሚጠጉ ሴቶች ሳይጠየፉ አቅፈዋል። መድኃኒያለም በቀኙ ይቀፍዎት! ለበደላችን ቅጣት ነበሩ ካትሪንዬ። አንድም ቀን በአካል አይቼዎት ባላውቅም፣ ነፍስዎን ሁሌም አከብራታለሁ።

መልካም ውርስዎ፣ ሥራዎ እንዲቀጥልም ከማንም መንግስታዊ ተቋም በላቀ ሁኔታ ሆስፒታሉን መሰረት አስይዘውታልና ሁሌም ስንዘክርዎ ስናመሰግንዎ እንኖራለን።

I am saddened by the passing of such a compassionate, clever and resourceful person as Catherine was. She changed lives. She is my hero and example of how I am to live my life. Thank you Catherine.

Your sefless life, shared for others, using your gifts for the benefit of the vulnerable, leaving behind others well trained to carry on your work, a shining example of Christian love. Thank you for all you have done in the name of Jesus Christ.

A truly incredible woman who devoted her life to serving the poorest and most vulnerable women. The world is a much better place because she has lived. A new path is before her now.

As a midwife who trained in Africa, I always listened with interest whenever the name Catherine Hamelin was mentioned. I saw her interviewed on Oprah and wept as she described herself as a ’professional beggar’. She has been an inspiration and role model for all health professionals caring for pregnant women. She will be missed but her legacy will forever remind us of her truly amazing life and capacity to care for women.

You were and continue to be a mighty inspiration dearest Catherine. The work that you and your husband did is unforgettable.

How a loving and caring selfless human you are?
I loved and respected you for what you did to the people of Ethiopia. I am so sad I didn’t play my part to help you go even higher, I will spread to the world about what a woman, most importantly, what a human you are!

Farewell dear Dr Catherine. You lived a life of selfless service and authenticity. The care you provided to so many, suffering women can never be properly measured. Your legacy will be a timeless one. May you Rest In Peace with your beloved Reg. You were one of the greats. Vale.

Catherine Hamlin was a dedicated gentle woman who showed compassion to the patients who needed it most. She will be sadly missed. Such a wonderful woman.
