It is with deep sadness we share the news of the passing of Dr Catherine Hamlin, co-founder of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.
On Wednesday March 18th Catherine passed away peacefully at her home on the grounds of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia where she has lived for 61 years.
I am so terribly sad to hear of Catherine’s death. Sincere Condolences to family and colleagues. She leaves a wonderful Legacy.

Shocked at how upset I feel hearing the sad news, allbthexwaynin the other side of the world, never having met her.?An awesome human, she was a special gift to this world. Sympathy to her nearest and dearest.
“Thank you” seem such small words at this sad time. My deepest condolences to the Hamlin family and to Dr Hamlin’s colleagues in Ethiopia and at the Foundation. I am sure that all those she helped to heal are thinking of you all at this time. A wonderful, selfless woman who, with her late husband, leaves a legacy that will continue to save lives. A lifetime of service, hers was indeed a life very well lived.
I am filled with sorrow at the passing of such a magnificent woman. I am a midwife and have long been inspired by Catherine’s work. Catherine taught me to seek for the best possible outcome for all childbearing women and to practice my midwifery with hope, clarity and grace. My thoughts go out to her family at this time and hope that the next generation of Hamlin medical staff and midwives continue her legacy with the same strength and passion that Catherine brought to work everyday.

The message left me weeping for the loss of this saintly lady. ON the other hand there is a feeling of joy and thanks for her life dedicated to the most needy and suffering women of this world. For a number of Years Dr. Hamlin replied personally to every letter and they are precious mementos. May she rest in peace and we promise to continue supporting her work so her final wish will be fulfilled. I love this lady with all my heart.
