As a midwife who trained in Africa, I always listened with interest whenever the name Catherine Hamelin was mentioned. I saw her interviewed on Oprah and wept as she described herself as a ’professional beggar’. She has been an inspiration and role model for all health professionals caring for pregnant women. She will be missed but her legacy will forever remind us of her truly amazing life and capacity to care for women.
