I am so sad to hear of the passing of this amazing lady, may her legacy endure

Your life was a thousand life lived. You were a lantern sent to Ethiopia, for the women whose lives you changed, for the community whom you taught compassion and for decision-makers you influenced. You were an inspiration to the rest of us, to understand our purpose in life. Your legacy will live on through the individual lives you touched. I will cherish our encounter for the rest of my life.
May the lord rest you in the comfort of his arm.

Before I trained as a Midwife, I read Dr Catherine Hamlin’s book ‘The Hospital By The River’…& have since regularly checked in to see what’s going on with her amazing work! Such an amazing advocate for women’s health & a total inspiration! May you rest in peace & continue to inspire us all through your legacy…thoughts, peace & love to Catherine’s family, friends & birth tribe at this sad time xx

I want to praise this amazing woman for devoting her entire life to helping some of the most marginalised people in our world in a profound and loving manner. She will remain a role model for us all forever.

When we had the privilege of meeting Dr Hamlin – one of the worlds true heroines we were struck by Catherine’s absolute and total devotion , her humility and love for her patients . Dr Catherine was a living Saint in our eyes and someone who didn’t seek recognition for her achievements . Despite this , Dr Hamlin should have been given the honour of Australian of the Year decades ago . We can not think of anyone else who has given so much of themselves over 61 years and she was always working even in her 90s . It was not an easy life for their family . We are very sad to learn of her death but know Ethiopia will give her an enormous send off as she was so very loved by its people . May Dr. Catherine and Dr Reg’s legacy live on in the amazing facilities they have created and the incredible staff they have trained over the years .

Gone but never forgotten, truely amazing Lady who has changed the lives of so many. What you started will continue because of your passion and dedication to the young girls and women in Africa. RIP Dr Hamlin

20 years ago I fainted was at the front of packed St Matthews church in Addis on Easter Sunday, felt ill before getting up to do a reading, walked to the back and fainted. Catherine immediately appeared, sorted me out with no fuss whatsoever, just straightforward practical quick care, and I was in awe of this legend of a woman looking after me even for a minute, after visiting the hospital and being blown away by her and all the staff. It was a privilege to have met her even briefly. What a phenomenal impact on Ethiopia and the world.

I feel a special connection to the Hamlin’s because when they were working in Princess Tsehai Hospital in the 1960s Dr Reginald Hamlin attended my birth. My mother always remembers his face as an angel who helped her at the time of her deepest need. My life had been blessed so much and I always wondered if he touched and prayed for me for God’s blessing. Beyond the Hamlin’s dedication to helping so many women suffering from fistula, I owe them a wealth of gratitude for unwittingly stepping into my mother’s life and becoming a blessing to our family. I went to medical school, became an American citizen, and now work in the field of public health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.

Thank you Catherine for your unwavering commitment and dedication to the women of Ethiopia suffering from fistula. Your care and compassion to those in need is a wonderful example of Christ. God continue to bless your good work.

An honour to know Catherine and to support her pioneering work for women’s wellbeing.

She was indeed a saint. I read her book “Catherine’s Gift” as a young girl and it has never left me. I’m so proud to have worked and volunteered with the Catherine Hamlin Foundation.
