Dr Catherine Hamlin devoted her life for treatment of fistula sufferers and changed a life lived with shame to life of joy for many. She was simply filled with the milk of human kindness. Stanley Arnold once remarked “The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it.” She might have passed away but her work lives on to inspire others to walk on her footsteps. Ethiopia, Australia and humanity at large mourns your loss but your compassionate actions beyond colour, culture and country – that inspired many, helped countless women and proved very effective and reproduced in other parts of Ethiopia – will never be forgotten.
